A man attending a free concert in a San Francisco park was astonished to realise the 'old guy' who took to the stage for an impromptu performance was rock legend Robert Plant, best known as the lead vocalist of Led Zeppelin. The surprise set, part of the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival, quickly went viral after the fan shared his experience on X.

Viral reaction and location revealed
A third user wrote: "He's the best, saw them earlier this year in Dallas." One stunned follower couldn't believe 'the number of people who do not know who it is', prompting Edd to reply: "Guys a legend of rock!"
Edd revealed the performance took place at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, as part of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, a popular, entirely free, non-commercial music festival held annually in the park. He noted that Plant, 78, had a scheduled performance the following day, but his impromptu gig came as a surprise to attendees. Edd also said Plant's voice was still 'sounding great'.
Plant's legendary career
Widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential vocalists in rock history, Plant epitomised the archetypal 1970s rock frontman with his formidable, multi-octave vocal range, soaring high-pitched belts, and theatrical stage presence. He joined Led Zeppelin in 1968 after being discovered by guitarist Jimmy Page, alongside bassist John Paul Jones and drummer John Bonham.
He wrote the lyrics to numerous iconic anthems, including "Stairway to Heaven," "Kashmir," and "Whole Lotta Love," often drawing inspiration from Norse mythology and the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien. Led Zeppelin disbanded in 1980 following the death of John Bonham.
After the band's break-up, Plant embarked on a solo career, releasing 11 solo studio albums from Pictures at Eleven (1982) to Carry Fire (2017). In 2007, he teamed up with Alison Krauss for the acclaimed album Raising Sand, which won Album of the Year at the 2009 Grammy Awards. The duo released a second joint album, Raise the Roof, in 2021. Plant continues to tour with his acoustic outfit, Saving Grace, which puts a fresh spin on traditional folk, blues, and gospel music.
