Ed Sheeran has announced he is relocating with his family to the United States for the foreseeable future. The 34-year-old singer made the admission during an appearance on The 2 Johnnies Podcast, revealing that he plans to “settle” in America with his wife Cherry Seaborn and their two daughters, Lyra and Jupiter, during his upcoming tour.
“I’m just about to move to America… I feel like I might be the only person moving to America… I’m going on tour there for a while, so I have a family, so I can’t dip in and out, we’re going and settling there,” Sheeran said.
The move has been long anticipated, as the Lego House hit-maker told the Call Her Daddy podcast in April that Nashville was his “end goal” and he planned to transition to country music. “When you transition to country, you can’t transition back,” he said, describing Nashville as his favourite US city.
Sheeran also faced backlash earlier this year after telling The Louis Theroux Podcast that he identified “culturally as Irish” despite being “obviously born and raised in Britain”. In his latest interview, he discussed his UK estate, which includes two pubs and a chapel he uses for mourning friends and hosting carol singing. He said the pubs allow him to “let loose” without cameras.
The singer, born in Halifax and raised in Suffolk, owns a minority stake in Ipswich Town FC. With 14 UK number one singles and eight number one albums, his hits include The A Team, Sing and Don’t. He surprised fans this summer by unveiling his first art collection.
