Ed Sheeran has announced he is leaving the UK to move to the United States with his family. The 34-year-old singer, currently based in Suffolk with his wife Cherry Seaborn and their two daughters, Lyra and Jupiter, said he is relocating for the foreseeable future.
Speaking on The 2 Johnnies podcast, Sheeran explained that his upcoming US tour and family commitments prompted the move. 'I'm just about to move to America,' he said. 'I feel like I might be the only person moving to America. I'm going on tour there for a while, and I have a family, so I can't dip in and out.'
The singer admitted he will miss watching his beloved Ipswich Town, a club in which he owns a 1.4% stake. 'I went to almost every game last season – I think I can only make one this season because I'm moving to the States,' he added.
Sheeran's departure will leave his £3.7 million Suffolk mansion, known as Sheeranville, vacant. He also owns a property portfolio reportedly worth £57 million, including 22 homes in London. The destination of his US move has not been disclosed.
The news follows Sheeran's comments on The Louis Theroux Podcast about security measures for his family. He revealed he has 24-hour security at his home and for his wife and children, citing a recent break-in attempt. 'There are lots of dangerous people out there,' he said. 'In my industry, that's normal.'
