Daft Punk have made a comeback five years after retiring, thanks to a new partnership with LEGO that will see the French duo turned into toys.
The collaboration blends music, culture and creative experimentation, launching with a hero film starring LEGO minifigure versions of the Gallic pair on a sci-fi adventure following a holographic red brick.
Fan-designed concert set
LEGO also revealed a fan-designed LEGO Ideas Daft Punk Concert project, inspired by the famous pyramid stage from the legendary ALIVE 2007 tour, which will be developed into an official LEGO set.
Beyond the product collaboration, the partnership will bring the duo to life in new ways across the LEGO brand through a mashup of events and content spanning music, culture and creative spaces.
Film journey
To introduce the partnership, the two brands unveiled a film in which the duo's minifigures follow a holographic red brick through a dark, mysterious landscape. As the robots step inside the "gates-of-play", the holographic architecture unfolds and envelops them until they are seen manning a LEGO brick-built console.
The film is soundtracked by Voyager, a bassline tribute from Daft Punk's 2001 Discovery album, and Human After All, the title track from their 2005 album.
From lockdown idea to official set
The Daft Punk concept came from the LEGO Ideas community, where a Luxembourgish father-and-son passion project captured the attention of thousands of fans and will now advance to officially become a LEGO set.
Patrick Harboun, owner of the LEGO Ideas Daft Punk Concert submission, said: "This all started as a creative escape during lockdown between my son and I because of our shared love of Daft Punk and LEGO building.
"We never dared imagine it would take off in this way. Watching our passion project become part of an official collaboration is an incredible experience, and it's a reminder of what makes the LEGO Ideas community so special. That a simple idea, shared by fans, really can become something much bigger."
The duo announced their retirement in 2021, and their Alive tour is being turned into a real toy set.
