Sky-High Romance: Flight Attendant's Chance Meeting Leads to 25-Year Marriage

A TUI cabin crew member has shared the heartwarming details of her romance with her now-husband, which began with a serendipitous encounter at 30,000 feet during a flight to Tenerife. Alexis Milford-White, then 32, boarded a Boeing 757 at Manchester Airport in June 2001, anticipating nothing more than a routine shift. Little did she know that this ordinary workday would alter the course of her life forever.

A Fateful Flight and an Ice-Breaking Moment

As Alexis carried out her duties on the aircraft, Stuart, a 24-year-old holidaymaker travelling with friends, quickly captured her attention. 'We got chatting throughout the flight,' Alexis recalled. 'At one point, he even helped me when I dropped the money from duty-free sales all over the cabin floor. It was one of those moments that just broke the ice.' This simple act of kindness paved the way for a connection that would deepen rapidly.

Upon landing in the Canary Islands, Stuart mustered the courage to ask Alexis for her contact details. Three days later, she received a text message from him, sparking a communication that would soon become intense. 'We stayed in touch throughout his holiday and would talk on the phone for hours, sometimes up to 12 hours at a time,' she gushed. Determined to see Stuart once more before his return home, Alexis managed to secure a shift on his flight back, setting the stage for their next meeting.

Overcoming Distance and Health Challenges

Shortly after, the pair arranged to 'meet properly', and they clicked instantly, beginning to see each other every week. However, just two months into their relationship, the difficulties of long-distance dating—with Stuart based in Birmingham and Alexis in Preston—were compounded by a tragic turn of events. Alexis became seriously ill with a spinal bacterial infection that left her unable to walk.

Despite the miles separating them, Stuart left his training in Birmingham 'without hesitation' and rushed to her side. 'It was a difficult time, and I was off work for a long time,' Alexis said. 'But he was an amazing support, and it became clear very quickly we were meant to be together.' Stuart stood by her as she underwent rehabilitation, including learning to walk again in a pool, demonstrating unwavering commitment during her recovery.

A Disney Wedding and Lasting Love

After six months, Stuart moved in, and the couple have been inseparable ever since. Both avid Disney fans, they celebrated their love by marrying at Disney World in Florida in 2004. Now, as they mark their 25th Valentine's Day together, Alexis and Stuart reflect on the key elements that have sustained their relationship. They emphasise listening, supporting one another, and making the most of their time together as crucial factors.

Alexis added that her career as cabin crew, which involves frequent travel, makes them value their shared moments even more. Becoming a flight attendant was a lifelong dream for her; after years in banking, she took a leap of faith, applied to TUI, and secured the job at her first interview.

A Testament to Love Found in Unexpected Places

With Valentine's Day approaching, their story serves as a poignant reminder that love can blossom anywhere—even on a routine TUI flight to Tenerife. 'We’ve had our ups and downs like any couple,' Alexis admitted. 'But if it wasn’t for that flight, we wouldn’t be together. I went to work that day thinking it was just another shift, and instead, I met my husband, and he's my rock. Even after all these years, it still amazes me that love found us in the sky.'

Their journey from a chance meeting at 30,000 feet to a quarter-century of marriage highlights the unpredictable and enduring nature of romance, offering inspiration to couples everywhere.
