Tommy DeCarlo, the frontman of US rock band Boston since 2007, has died of brain cancer at the age of 60. His family confirmed his death on Monday, 9 March 2026, in a statement: “After being diagnosed with brain cancer last September, he fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end.”
DeCarlo joined Boston in 2007 after original frontman Brad Delp’s death. A lifelong fan, he had posted a tribute song to Delp on MySpace, along with covers of Boston hits. Founding member Tom Scholz heard the covers and invited DeCarlo to perform with the band. “I haven’t heard anyone else sing like that in 35 years,” Scholz said. DeCarlo, then a credit manager at Home Depot, gave his first gig at the Bank of America Pavilion in Boston.
DeCarlo sang on Boston’s 2013 album Life, Love & Hope, their only full-length release after he joined. The band last toured in 2017. DeCarlo also formed the band Decarlo with his son Tommy DeCarlo Jr in 2012. He is survived by his wife Annie and two children.
