Stewart Slams Tech Giants' Self-Policing and Trump's AI Ties

Late-night hosts took aim at Donald Trump's close ties to the AI industry and his flailing attempts to lure midterm voters.

Stewart on AI and Tech Giants

On The Daily Show, Jon Stewart spoke about how AI had been a "great concern lately" and how the biggest AI leaders meeting at the White House seemed to suggest that something important was being done about it.

But instead, Trump went against many of his previous statements against tech bros to announce that they would be self-policing their actions.

"They're tyrants!" Stewart said in response. "I thought you hated these guys?"

He asked "how can you justify letting the tech giants police themselves?" as well as "why can't we just fucking slow this down rather than let people regulate something they have a clear conflict of interest in regulating?"

AI's Current Use and Jobs

When asked about the positive impact of AI, many of the key figures said that it would be used for the greater good but Stewart spoke instead about how it's mostly being used at this moment.

"So in the future we will use AI to cure diseases but right now it's mostly murder, surveillance and surge pricing for the McRib," he said.

He added: "I'm getting the sense that you guys might be full of shit" before moving on to the topic of jobs and how they will be affected by the rise of AI.

Many key tech figures have found themselves unable to fully answer how employment will be affected while also suggesting it won't be a problem. "They can't answer the jobs question in a straightforward manner," he said,

Stewart added: "My guess is that they'll still have jobs when this is done".

He played a clip of Elon Musk claiming that AI will actually lead to a universal high income for us all. "If we let them do enough unfettered capitalism, we can apparently capitalism our way to socialism," Stewart said.

But he questioned why that money isn't coming to us now. "Don't call us welfare queens, just call us early adopters," he joked.

"Stop lying to us," he added.

Kimmel on Flu Season and Midterms

On Jimmy Kimmel Live! the host spoke about flu season being more dangerous than ever, with a rise in other diseases, including the plague in Russia. "No worries, the gang who brought polio back is on the case," he joked after showing a clip of Trump speaking about the story.

Kimmel reminded viewers that the president is "a doctor but also Jesus" in reference to his AI social media posts.

The host reminded viewers that the midterms are close and "you'd better be registered to vote" as Trump is trying to "save the Republican majority and his marriage".

Polls suggest his party won't do well but if he can't inspire the vote, "he's gonna buy it from you" with the president repeating his claim that every American will receive $5,000 if Republicans win.

"Why not make it five million dollars?" Kimmel asked before saying that Trump is "more likely to run a 5k than give it to us".

Trump has also been trying to tank Democrat James Talarico's campaign as he is "one of the strongest candidates we've seen in a long time".

He is also still trying to make "dumocrat" happen even though "not one time has it gotten a laugh".

Taxpayer money has also been used for Trump ads and the FCC chair, Brendan Carr, has not found that to be a problem.

Kimmel said it was "hard to see anything when your head is that far up the president's ass".

Meyers on Trump's Intelligence Claims

On Late Night, Seth Meyers spoke about Trump claiming he is a "high IQ person" at a recent rally. "This dude thinks he's a genius because he passed a dementia test," he said.

Trump, who is "obsessed with his own intelligence", has recently spent time attacking Senator Tom Cotton as he has opposed a bill to establish year-round daylight savings time.

The president raged against it to the press, complaining about the annoyance of changing clocks. "Nobody changes their clock any more!" Meyers countered before saying that Trump must be using his "stove as an alarm clock".

"We don't just decide to make it dark earlier for no reason," he said before suggesting Trump's talk of light and dark made him sound like a Neanderthal.

But Trump "desperately needs a win no matter how small" and recently gave out Cotton's cell number on social media. "Never give Donald Trump your cell, you gotta be more careful with that," Meyers said.

Meyers said that Trump's circle was now just "weirdos and losers", which is what happened when you spend "a decade devoting yourself to someone with no fixed principles, allegiances and loyalties".
