Prison Island Horror Story review: Escape room is not for faint of heart
Prison Island Horror Story review: Not for faint of heart

Prison Island: Horror Story, a horror-themed escape room in north London, features over 30 game rooms and scare actors roaming the halls during three weekends in October. One reviewer's 60-minute attempt to break free ended in failure, with only 11 cells completed.

A Night Behind Bars

The experience, brought to life by live entertainment platform Fever and immersive entertainment specialists Make It Now, transforms the prison into a horror setting. Players receive a key fob and a UV light keychain to access available cells. The reviewer and her brother chose 'The Burglar' room.

Upon opening the door, they found Ghostface from Scream sitting at a table. The silent treatment made them squirm, and they spent half the time worrying about what would happen next. Time ran out and they failed the task.

Challenges and Scares

Some rooms require a team of three or more to complete, while others are trivia quizzes. One room features a steep, uneven, and sloping floor that disrupts balance, making tasks harder to solve.

Just as they exited a room for a break, the Babyface killer actor stood by the door, delivering a jumpscare. The reviewer quickly turned around and locked herself back in the room.

Practical Advice

The limited-run event runs on October 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th, 28th, 29th, 30th, and 31st, from 7pm to 11pm. While pairs are allowed, a team of five is recommended because physical challenges like laser gun shooting and basketball games require cooperation. Scare actors can also enter cells during gameplay.
