Mafia 3 and CoD WW2 free on PS Store in UK

Mafia 3 and Call of Duty: WW2 are currently free on the PlayStation Store in the UK, in what may be another Sony blunder. The games, from 2016 and 2017 respectively, are listed at no cost for all users, without requiring a PlayStation Plus subscription.

Free games and DLC

As verified by GameCentral, 2016's Mafia 3 is currently listed as free for everyone on the PlayStation Store. At the time of writing, the game's DLC is also claimable at no cost, including extra missions, weapons, and vehicles.

Call of Duty: WW2 is also listed as free. Both giveaways appear to be limited to Europe, as the US store listing for Mafia 3 still shows a $29.99 price tag, while Call of Duty: WW2 remains at $59.99.

Possible error or promotion

It is unclear whether this is an error or part of an unannounced promotion. The offers are not available on Xbox or Steam. This is not the first time Sony has accidentally given away free games. In August last year, a racing game called CarX Street was made free on the store, in what was an error with PS Plus discounts.

Sony later fixed that issue, but did not revoke access for those who took advantage of the brief freebie window. There is a chance Sony will revoke access to those who download Mafia 3 or Call of Duty: WW2, since they are more expensive and higher profile games, but players might as well take advantage of it for now.

Upcoming releases and PS Plus games

The next Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 4, is set to launch on October 23 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. It boasts a Korea-focused campaign, smoother traversal, and a modular arena called Kill Block, but the beta did not impress.

This month's PS Plus games include F1 25, Hunt: Showdown 1896, and Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2. These are available to claim now until November 2, 2026.
