Lego has unveiled its first-ever Godzilla set, a towering model based on the Monsterverse design that will lead the company's Black Friday promotions. The set, numbered 21375, stands over 70cm tall and comprises exactly 5,363 pieces, making it the biggest Lego Ideas set ever released.
Lego Ideas sets originate from fan creations submitted to a website for public voting. The most popular designs are reviewed by Lego, and a select few are turned into retail products, with the original creator receiving a small share of the profits.
Design and Features
The Godzilla model is highly posable, featuring moveable shoulders, elbows, wrists and fingers. It also includes the giant dorsal fins on its back, a detail Lego notes is difficult to replicate, and a detachable heat ray to simulate Godzilla's atomic breath.
The original model was created by fan Matthew Esposito from New York, who expressed delight at his design being selected for release. "Building Lego Godzilla was a real passion project. I've loved both Lego building and Godzilla for years, so I wanted to capture his shape, scale and character as accurately as I could. The head was definitely the biggest challenge, but seeing the model come together and eventually reach 10,000 supporters after more than two years was incredible. I'm so grateful to everyone who supported the project and helped make this dream a reality," Esposito said.
Release and Availability
The Godzilla set will be available from November 27 at Lego stores and on the Lego website. Priced at £349.99, it is aimed at adult collectors and positioned as a Christmas gift rather than an impulse purchase.
The release date coincides with Black Friday, which Lego intentionally aligns with a major new set each year. November also marks Godzilla Day, commemorating the original film's release in Japan on November 3, 1954, and the UK arrival of the new movie Godzilla Minus Zero on November 6.
Exclusive Gift with Purchase
Customers who buy the set between November 27 and 30 will receive an exclusive gift-with-purchase set, the Godzilla Logo & Footprint set, which is not available any other way. This set features the Godzilla logo, a giant footprint, and a miniature cityscape, complete with a reference to a certain moth-like kaiju. The footprint matches up exactly with the main set, offering an incentive to purchase early.
