Conflicting Reports on GTA 6 Switch 2 Port
Rumours have surfaced that Nintendo and Rockstar Games are collaborating on a port of Grand Theft Auto 6 for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. However, conflicting claims from industry insiders have cast doubt on whether such a port will actually materialise. While a PC version of GTA 6 is widely expected, given Rockstar's history of delayed PC releases, the prospect of a Switch 2 version remains highly uncertain.
Technical Challenges and Insider Claims
The Switch 2 is significantly more powerful than its predecessor, capable of running demanding titles like Cyberpunk 2077. Yet GTA 6, with its ultra-realistic graphics and massive open world, presents a formidable challenge. Nash Weedle, a known source of video game rumours, has been claiming since 2023 that a Switch 2 port is in development. Following the launch of GTA 6 pre-orders, he stated that 'technical hurdles have been overcome,' suggesting Rockstar has successfully optimised the game for Nintendo's console. He added that the port won't be ready this year.
In contrast, insider Shpeshal Nick reported hearing no such port is on the way. Instead, he alleges that Nintendo is working with Rockstar and publisher Take-Two Interactive to 'try and make it happen.' Nick tweeted on June 29, 2026: 'For what it’s worth, I haven’t heard “it’s coming” but I’ve heard they’re working with Rockstar/Take Two to make to try and make it happen.'
Previous Rumours and Industry Context
This isn't the first time such claims have emerged. Last year, NateTheHate alleged that Rockstar was testing GTA 6 on Switch 2 hardware, though he could not specify the state of development. Given the strong working relationship between Rockstar and Nintendo, a partnership makes business sense. GTA 6 is one of the most anticipated games ever, and a Switch 2 port would allow Rockstar to tap into Nintendo's large player base, boosting sales beyond the expected strong performance on PlayStation 5 and Xbox.
Rockstar's Growing Presence on Nintendo Platforms
Rockstar has shown increasing interest in Nintendo's ecosystem. The company released Red Dead Redemption for both the original Switch and Switch 2. Rumours also persist about a Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2, alongside a PlayStation 5 upgrade, though neither has been officially announced. As of now, no formal confirmation exists for a GTA 6 Switch 2 port, leaving fans to speculate amid the conflicting insider reports.
