Games Inbox: Best Melee Combat, GTA 6 Leaker, and More

The Friday letters page pits Onimusha: The Way Of The Sword against Nioh 3, as readers try to understand the motives of GTA 6 nemesis Cyberleek.

Best Melee Combat of 2026

Reader Jonesy was interested in the review of Gears Of War: E-Day, which complained about the game's gunplay despite it being the main activity. They were also surprised to learn that Control: Resonant was a melee combat game, which apparently didn't turn out well. Jonesy wondered which game has the best melee combat this year, guessing it wasn't Marvel's Wolverine, and suggested Nioh 3 or Onimusha: Way Of The Sword.

GameCentral responded: "For us it's definitely Onimusha: Way Of The Sword, although Nioh 3 is great too and sadly underrated."

GTA 6 Leaker's Motives Questioned

Reader Focus questioned the motives of the GTA 6 leaker, who returned with another video despite getting away with everything before. They noted that much of what's shown, including nudity and a tank, are likely debug tricks, which puts other content into question. Focus wondered what the leaker is getting out of it, as they're increasing the chances of spending a long time in jail with no legitimate way to have a fully working version of the game.

Focus also criticized the quality of the leaker's videos, saying little has been learned from them, and questioned whether the leaker has made enough money to disappear to safety.

Hellraiser Game Surprises

Reader Kimball praised the review of the new Hellraiser game, expressing surprise that there hasn't been a game of it before. They noted that in the 80s, almost every horror movie got a game, including Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Texas Chain Saw Massacre, though they were all rubbish. Kimball is interested in the new game despite potential jank and dodgy combat, and is surprised by the amount of sexual content, attributing it to a European developer rather than an American one.

Amazon Game Delivery Issues

Reader Simon reported trouble with Amazon for buying games, with delayed dispatch emails and no confirmed delivery dates for both pre-orders and recent releases. This has happened twice in one week, and prices aren't as cheap as they used to be. Simon has moved some pre-orders to Smyths and asked for recommendations for reliable websites.

GameCentral responded that this isn't necessarily Amazon's fault, as video games are being made in ever smaller amounts, to the point where even pre-orders don't guarantee stores get enough copies. The PlayStation move to all-digital will be a gradual decrease over time, not a switch that's turned off.

Cosmetic Prices and Development Times

Reader Mastar commented on the prices of cosmetics in live service games, finding it insane that a Hollow Knight cosmetic DLC is more expensive than the game itself. They noted it's a clear sign of priorities for many modern gamers, with too many choosing pointless cosmetics over amazing, original, and cheap indie games.

Reader Cribbens expressed confusion about developers saying a game will be out sooner than the last one, citing Gears of War as the latest example. They questioned what "quicker" means after a seven-year wait, and doubted that AI would improve speed or that anyone would pay £70 for half-baked rubbish not made by a human. They suggested accepting a maximum of two entries in any franchise per generation, unless multiple developers work in rotation like Activision did with Call Of Duty, though that approach has also fallen off.

Star Wars Zero Company and Ultima Rights

Reader Tronk was happy to hear that the Star Wars Zero Company dev has been able to bring people back, hoping for rehires and DLC soon. They suggested adding an endless mode, more aliens, droids, weapons, and maps, and hoped for a better ship than the original "box with a couple of Y-wing engines."

Reader Wigston discussed Richard Garriott getting the rights back to Ultima, apparently automatically after 35 years if the other company isn't using it. They wondered if this could happen with other dead franchises like Parasite Eve, Ridge Racer, or Bullfrog games, and especially Metal Gear, suggesting Konami could give it back to Kojima.

Inbox Also-Rans

Reader David speculated the GTA 6 leaker is back because the money has run out, warning that Rockstar and Take-Two will catch them. Reader Flammie agreed with Thursday's reader about Gears Of War: E-Day on Game Pass, finding it too samey halfway through.
