EA revives Fight Night boxing series after 15 years

EA has announced the return of its boxing game series Fight Night after 15 years, though the exact form of the comeback remains unclear. The announcement came via a new social media account on X, which posted on Tuesday, October 20, a message accompanied by an image of hanging boxing gloves.

The post reads: 'To everyone who stayed in our corner: Fight Night is coming back.'

Series Return Announced After Long Absence

The last game in the series was 2011's Fight Night Champion, released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Since then, EA has largely focused on the EA Sports UFC series, which received a new entry in June this year.

EA continues to release annual titles for many of its sports franchises, including EA Sports FC and NHL, but other series have been left dormant. For example, there hasn't been a golf game since 2023's EA Sports PGA Tour, while this year the company released a 2026 season DLC pack for F1 2025 instead of a new entry.

No Details on Format or Release

There are no details on whether this will be a new console game, a remake, or a mobile experiment. The series was always considered one of EA's best, making its absence a sore point for boxing game fans.

In the past, legendary boxers like Mike Tyson, Anthony Joshua, and Tyson Fury have been included as special unlockable fighters in the UFC series, in an attempt to fill the boxing gap.

Possible Connection to PIF Buyout

It's unclear why EA is bringing back Fight Night now, but the announcement comes after EA's buyout by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF). Saudi Arabia has invested heavily into boxing and UFC over recent years, so a connection is plausible.

There's no indication of when a new game could be revealed, but based on EA's usual rollout for sports games, it could be released next year.
