James Corden and Ruth Jones, the creators of Gavin & Stacey, are reuniting for a new comedy drama series titled The Choir, which will air on Apple TV. The eight-episode show is now in production and is set to premiere in 2027.
Star-Studded Cast and Plot
The series follows brother and sister Ben (Corden) and Lisa (Jones), who have not seen each other for several years. Ben has been living abroad, while Lisa has continued living in their small town, where "nothing ever happens". When events take a sorry turn, Ben is forced to return to "a life he never wanted, a town he never liked and a family from which he's estranged".
The cast includes Tom Davis, Rosie Sheehy, Susan Brown, Jason Watkins, Alexandria Riley, Sylvestra Le Touzel, Tom Edden, Gary Lamont, Emily Lloyd-Saini, Stephen Leask, Luiis Rouf, Jo Foster, Evie Jones and Farrah Abbassy. Guest appearances will be made by Hannah Waddingham, James McAvoy and Jim Broadbent.
Executive Producers and Background
As well as starring in the series, Corden and Jones will serve as executive producers. The pair rose to fame as co-writers of the BBC comedy Gavin & Stacey, in which they played Vanessa 'Nessa' Jenkins and Neil "Smithy" Smith, the best friends of the title characters, for three series and three Christmas specials between 2007 and 2024.
Corden later appeared in films including Gulliver's Travels (2010), The Prom (2020) and Cinderella (2021). He co-hosted US chat show The Late Late Show with James Corden from 2015 to 2023 before moving back to the UK. Jones has had roles in TV series including Fat Friends (2000-2005), Little Britain (2003-2006) and Stella (2012-2017), and has written novels including Never Greener (2018), Love Untold (2022) and By Your Side (2025).
