Prime Video's new adaptation of Stephen King's debut novel Carrie begins streaming all eight episodes on October 7. The series, set in 2026, updates the 1974 story with social media playing a central role.
The synopsis follows a sheltered girl who discovers her telekinetic powers. After a traumatic event, she is forced to enrol in public high school, where bullying leads to a horrific, bloody incident influenced by her domineering mother.
Showrunner and lead casting
Mike Flanagan serves as showrunner, having previously adapted King's Doctor Sleep and The Life of Chuck, as well as Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House and The Fall of the House of Usher. Flanagan has confirmed that more than 1,300 actresses auditioned for the title role.
Summer H. Howell leads as Carrie White, the socially inept teen with special powers. Flanagan said her interpretation was "unlike anyone else's and offered us an entirely new version of Carrie White that only Summer could play." At 22, Howell is early in her career, with previous credits in Time Cut and Abducted by My Teacher: The Elizabeth Thomas Story.
