Rivington Festival of Light: Bluey, Paddington and more at Winter Hill
Rivington light festival brings Bluey, Paddington to Winter Hill

Rivington Festival of Light returns from Thursday, October 22 to Sunday, October 25, transforming the Winter Hill landmark into an after-dark display of illuminations, lasers and interactive experiences.

The event, organised by Rivington Heritage Trust, will feature a lantern trail with popular children's characters on display, including Bluey, Paddington, Peter Rabbit, The Gruffalo and Harry Potter. The Japanese Lake will serve as the backdrop for a light and laser show, with illuminated woodland trails, vibrant sculptures and interactive displays spread across the gardens.

Four Magical Nights of Family Entertainment

Organisers promise four 'magical nights', with families encouraged to 'immerse yourself in a wonderland of light' at the 'bigger and better than ever' event. The description highlights 'interactive activities spark your imagination', 'live music fills the air and lasers paint amazing coloured patterns in the night sky'.

"Wander through breathtaking illuminations, vibrant sculptures, and interactive experiences set around the stunning Japanese Lake and woodlands," says Rivington Heritage Trust. "Enjoy live music, dazzling laser displays, and delicious food and drink from local vendors - including treats from Northern Monkey Brewery."

Practical Information for Visitors

The event takes place high up on Winter Hill, with steep slopes, stairways and uneven surfaces. Visitors are advised to wear sturdy shoes and warm clothing, allow 25-30 minutes from the car park, and bring a torch for the walk back. Only assistance dogs are permitted.

The festival runs from 6pm to 9.30pm each evening. Tickets cost £10 for children aged 5 to 16, £18 for adults aged 17 and over, and under-fives go free. All children must be accompanied by at least one fee-paying adult. Live singers perform at 6pm, 7.30pm and 9pm, with light shows at intervals throughout the evening.

The event coincides with the October half-term break for many children across Greater Manchester and beyond, offering a firework-free celebration of light and creativity.
