Newcastle's Old George pub was at the centre of the NOVUM Festival's Domino Run on Sunday, as dominoes toppled through its courtyard in a first-of-its-kind spectacle for the city.
The iconic venue on the Bigg Market was one of many locations on the route, with crowds gathering to watch the sequence that began at Bewick Court and ended at the Helix building.
Dominoes take over the city
The first domino fell from a window of a flat in Bewick Court at 4.30pm on Sunday, signalling the start of a chain that saw dominoes fall at numerous places across Newcastle, including the City Library, Monument, and the Tyneside Cinema.
The Old George, which had been busy with World Cup crowds the night before, had its cobbled courtyard filled with dominoes for the occasion. People in the vicinity captured the moment on their phones as the dominoes tumbled.
A surreal sight
The pub shared a video of the sequence passing through on Instagram, with the whole thing feeling quite surreal given that less than 24 hours earlier the courtyard was full of people dancing.
NOVUM Festival turned Newcastle city centre into a playground over the weekend, with roads closed and street performers entertaining shoppers. The Domino Run was the highlight of the two-day event, which drew large crowds on both Saturday and Sunday.
