Sixty-six photographs capturing school life across Merseyside between the 1930s and the 1990s have been brought together from the archives, offering a glimpse of classroom scenes, day trips and events from decades past.
The images, courtesy of Mirrorpix and other archive sources, show pupils at play, in lessons and on outings, and may include familiar faces such as former teachers or old school friends.
Classroom scenes and day trips
The collection includes a 1949 picture of children playing on a purpose-built rooftop playground at Windsor Street County School in Liverpool, and a 1960 shot of pupils at Granby Street Secondary Modern School enjoying a Halloween party with bob apples and turnip candles.
Other highlights include a 1985 photograph of Sir David Attenborough visiting Croxteth Country Park with school children, and a 1996 image of three and four-year-olds from St Albert School nursery in Stockbridge Village queuing outside Liverpool's Empire Theatre to see Noddy.
Events and achievements
The gallery also features pupils from Paddington Comprehensive School winning the Elementary Ensemble at the Liverpool Youth Music Festival in 1971, and four former students from New Heys Comprehensive School set to be crowned BBC TV Young Broadcasters of the Year in 1990.
Images from the 1940s show schoolgirls learning to read a gas meter to work out the cost of a wartime meal, and children of St Albans School having their Christmas party in air raid shelters under railway arches in 1941.
Sport, music and celebrations
Sporting moments include Everton FC coach Mike Hadye pictured with girls from Holly Lodge School in 1991, and Wayne Ashe leading cheers at Anfield Junior Boys School on the day of Liverpool's European Cup Final against Club Bruges in 1978.
School bands, nativity plays, and a Euro 96 themed fancy dress competition at Walton St Mary Primary School in 1996 are also among the memories captured in the archive.
