London's festive season begins in early November, with numerous Christmas light switch-on events scheduled across the capital. From Carnaby Street's 90s-inspired display to Oxford Street's Harry Potter-themed lights, here is the full list of dates and locations for 2026.
Early November Switch-Ons
Carnaby Street in Soho is expected to be one of the first major areas to switch on its lights, on November 4. Organisers have teased that the display, called Press Play on Christmas, is inspired by 90s nostalgia, promising lots of colour and creativity.
Regent Street follows on November 5. The iconic glittery angels, known as Spirits of Christmas, are returning this year, having remained the same for about 10 years. Organisers have teased that there will be a 'secret twist'.
Oxford Street, which has just been pedestrianised, will feature Harry Potter-inspired Christmas lights for 2026, celebrating the launch of the Harry Potter television show by HBO, which premieres on Christmas Day. The New West End Company has described the lights as a 'festive celebration of one of the world's most beloved stories', but no switch-on date has been confirmed yet, with more news promised in the coming weeks.
Mid-November Celebrations
Knightsbridge will switch on its lights on November 10, taking an eco-friendly approach with 12,000 low-energy LED bulbs. Marylebone Village follows on November 11, transforming into a winter wonderland with food, drink, family entertainment, a 55-foot Ferris wheel, and live performances at Devonshire Street. The switch-on starts at 6pm and is expected to be led by a celebrity guest.
November 12 is a busy day for switch-ons. Covent Garden will illuminate around 30,000 LED lights, with a new installation of Christmas trees inspired by West End shows like Moulin Rouge and Mamma Mia, alongside the returning giant baubles and bells. Bond Street will light up over 90,000 LED lights at 7pm, arranged into a design inspired by the Crown Jewels, with a live brass band playing throughout the evening. Chelsea will hold its official switch-on ceremony at the Duke of York Square, with the area around King's Road expected to be pedestrianised, featuring activities, street performers, food, and drink. The Churchill Arms pub will also hold its grand switch-on on November 12.
Late November and December Events
Kew Gardens runs its Christmas at Kew celebration from November 13, with light trails, displays, tunnels of light, and dancing waterside reflections. Tickets, starting at £25.50, must be booked on the Kew Gardens website. New for 2026, adult-only evenings will be hosted on December 3 and 9.
Fleet Street will see Ludgate Circus decorated on November 18 with 12 sculptures of Beano characters, honouring the comic's office located on the street. On November 19, Leadenhall Market will erect a 26ft-tall Christmas tree, with garlands, a light tunnel, and live music unveiled from 6pm. Hyde Park Winter Wonderland returns on November 19 for six weeks, until January 3, 2027, featuring a marketplace, food and drink stalls, rides, and Christmas lights. A new VIP tour experience has been introduced for 2026, and the official website confirms over 150 attractions, with a 25% saving when booking online in advance.
Finally, The Shard will see its lights turn festive on December 1, although details on what to expect are being kept secret.
