Houghton Feast continued in Houghton-le-Spring, Sunderland, with a community parade and a road race drawing crowds to the town. The event featured brass bands, dancers, costumed characters and vehicles in a colourful spectacle along Newbottle Street.
Primary Dash Road Race winners
Finley Robson, Bernice Edionwe and team Newbottle won the Primary Dash Road Race and met with Sunderland Mayor Robert Hutchinson. Local primary schools competed in the 23rd annual road race along Newbottle Street, with the trophy and medals up for grabs.
Carnival parade and festival highlights
The carnival parade travelled along Newbottle Street before making its way to the Broadway, as part of the 10-day festival. The event brings together residents, families, visitors and community groups to celebrate the unique heritage, culture and spirit of the town.
Firm favourite features like the traditional fairground, ox roasting, carnival parade and fireworks have returned this year, alongside a packed programme of community events, exhibitions, talks and tours. The event will be running throughout the coming week until Sunday, October 11.
