Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) is rushed to hospital after receiving news that her new love interest Marco has been involved in a car accident in upcoming Coronation Street scenes.
The dramatic turn comes as Summer has been trying to rebuild her life following the murder of her adoptive dad Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) and her subsequent ordeal as a suspect in the killing.
Summer's recent struggles
Summer had become a major suspect in Theo Silverton's murder after being the last person to see him alive. Her diary contained a damning passage about wanting to hold a gun to Theo's head, and her plans to study in America looked like running away.
At her lowest point, she turned off her insulin pump and refused treatment for her diabetes, effectively choosing to end her own life rather than face prison.
Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) eventually exonerated Summer when he came forward to back up her story for that night.
New romance with Marco
Summer has been slowly putting her life back together with help from friends like Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) and Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney). She recently met Marco, an aspiring tattoo artist, and the pair began a romance.
Marco raised a red flag by stealing Summer's drawing and putting it in the window of his tattoo shop. He explained he did it so he would definitely see her again.
Hospital dash and police questioning
In next week's episodes, Summer receives a call informing her that Marco has been in a car accident. She rushes into A&E, where PC Jess Heywood (Donnaleigh Bailey) is waiting for her.
After learning Summer is in a relationship with Marco, PC Jess questions her about how long they have been dating. When Summer asks why it is her business, Jess insists it is her business if 'lover boy decided to play getaway driver'.
