Free Entry to Vintage Fair for Anyone Named Julie After Founder's Joke
Free Vintage Fair Entry for Julies After Founder's Joke

So Retro Events is offering free entry to its Vintage & Vinyl Fair at Stalybridge Civic Hall this Sunday (October 25) for anyone named Julie, following a cheeky social media post by founder Michelle.

The group, known for curating Classic Vintage Fairs across Greater Manchester, made the offer after Michelle joked about people who claim they never know about her events.

Founder's Frustration Sparks Post

Taking to Instagram last week, Michelle shared a post poking fun at people who say they didn't know about her fairs. She explained that such comments can be frustrating when she spends so much time promoting them.

She captioned the post: "Maybe I should just knock on every door in the local vicinity to tell people in person! Please share our posts far and wide so that I never have to hear someone say this to me again!!"

Writing on an image of Michelle's face read: "My face after days spent putting up posters and banners, handing out leaflets, plastering it all over social media, then after the event someone says 'Oh I didn't know it was on?', Really Julie?"

Julie's Respond to the Joke

Rather than using the name 'Karen', which is commonly known for someone perceived as excessively entitled, demanding, or aggrieved, Michelle went for the unique name of Julie.

However, a woman named Julie took to the comments section to try to clear her and the rest of the Julies' good name, writing: "Don't blame us Julie's! It's the Karen's you need to worry about."

Another Julie said: "Yes Julie, sorry last time we didn't know and I was not the only one. And believe me I always share event post."

Making It Up to the Julies

Noting that she 'upset the Julies', Michelle decided to make it right. Anyone with the name Julie is now on the guest list for the next Vintage & Vinyl Fair.

"I honestly just picked a random name when I wrote the post. Most people have taken it exactly as it was intended, but when I realised some people were genuinely offended, I thought I'd better make it up to them."

"So, if I've upset you, Julie, come and see me on Sunday. You can have free entry," she said.

To get the free entry, all a Julie has to do is show up at Stalybridge Civic Hall with proof of ID at the entrance. No booking is required for the free entry offer.

Event Details and Upcoming Fairs

The event brings together traders selling vintage clothing, homeware, furniture, jewellery, art, glassware and vinyl records. More events next month will be held in Stockport, Ramsbottom, Glossop, Stalybridge and at the artisan market in Stalybridge.
