A free outdoor spectacle featuring dancers, live music, lanterns and a fireworks finale will take over a Salford park during October half term as part of the city's centenary celebrations.
The Wagon Train, a pop-up entertainment hub that has toured the borough throughout the summer, will host its grand finale on Sunday, October 25, at Seedley Park, part of Buile Hill Park. The event runs from 6pm to 10pm and is free, with no tickets required.
A 'magical outdoor spectacle' for Salford 100
The finale is described as a “magical outdoor spectacle” created by outdoor arts curators Walk the Plank. It will celebrate Salford's heritage, shine a spotlight on today's talent and look to the city's future.
With space for an audience of up to 3,000 people, the event will include aerial performances, a glittering time capsule, a “gigantic birthday cake” and the Wagon Train of Inventions, which celebrates innovations such as electricity and space exploration. Dancers will represent the heydays of Salford's entertainment nightlife, from ballroom to northern soul, alongside live music and DJs.
Local children and torch bearers take part
Local children have worked with artists to create “Fuel of the Future” lanterns, made from willow and tissue paper, which they will carry during the performance. Pride of Salford torch bearers will arrive to ignite a huge fire drawing designed by young people, before a firework finale illuminates the night sky.
The show will feature over 350 Salfordians, many of whom have been involved in the city's centenary events throughout 2026.
