An upcoming North East festival appears to have been cancelled just weeks before it was due to take place, leaving fans of its headliners gutted despite the lack of an official announcement. Cliffe Park Live in Sunderland was set to feature The Waterboys on Thursday, August 13, Embrace on Friday, August 14 and Ocean Colour Scene on Saturday, August 15, in a month that had already seen the city host a Radio 1 Big Weekend in scorching weather.
Fans emailed over cancellation
Fans have now received emails telling them none of the three gigs are going ahead. Instead, ticket holders for The Waterboys and Embrace are being offered the chance to exchange their tickets for Ocean Colour Scene's show, which has moved to RM Arena near Houghton-le-Spring and will still take place on Saturday, August 15.
Tickets and VIP packages
Original tickets remain valid for the relocated concert, and more are on sale from RM Arena at £55.20 for general admission or £141 for VIP. The VIP package includes access to a premium VIP area, VIP entrance, VIP toilets, VIP bar and a separate food vendor.
No official statement yet
There has still been no announcement on Cliffe Park Live's social channels to confirm the cancellation or explain the reason. The last post on its Facebook page advertises a Vintage Explosion event at the park on Sunday, August 16. ChronicleLive contacted promoter XFire Live on Friday but has not yet received a response, and any mention of Cliffe Park Live has now been removed from XFire Live's Instagram grid. Both The Waterboys and Embrace have removed their Cliffe Park dates from their live schedules, and all Cliffe Park Live tickets are now coming up as unavailable.
