Sir Chris Bryant has predicted that next year's Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Belfast will be an "even bigger success" as the first event in the Northern Ireland capital draws to a close.
More than a million people are estimated to have attended the week-long festival, which concludes on Sunday with the All-Ireland competitions. Around 5,000 musicians and dancers from 22 countries have competed in 180 categories.
Final Day Highlights
The Senior Céilí Bands competition at the ICC/Belfast Waterfront Hall at 5.30pm will mark the end of the competitions. The winning band will perform on the Gig Rig for a finale. Street performances across the city centre and Fringe events on the outskirts continue through the final day.
Political and Community Support
The event featured bands from Loyalist, Unionist, and minority ethnic communities. Attendees included Irish President Catherine Connolly, Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Sir Chris Bryant, First Minister Michelle O’Neill, and deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly.
On Sunday morning, Sir Chris congratulated the organisers on X, writing: "Many congratulations to everyone involved in the Fleadh’s first showing in Belfast which has defied expectations showcasing an amazingly talented and welcoming city. I predict next year will be an even bigger success once those who missed out this year book!"
