Antiques Road Trip Expert Gasps at 'Amazing' Value of Item

In tonight's episode of Celebrity Antiques Road Trip, expert Roo Irvine was left in raptures when the true worth of a Scottish table was finally revealed. The show, which aired on BBC, headed to Glasgow, welcoming TV judges Keith Brymer Jones and Esme Young as they scoured antiques shops in search of hidden gems.

Charles Hanson Guides Esme to a Hidden Gem

With guidance from BBC resident expert Charles Hanson, Esme was directed towards a late 19th-century Chinese table, which Charles strongly advised she select for the final auction. "The reason I like it, it's a hard wood," Charles explained. "And in some respects, the market of anything Chinese, Asian, has taken off. And it's just well-made. Look at the patination. It's got a lovely colour about it, quite hard to achieve in a hard wood."

The duo splashed out £150 on the table, and despite Charles having high expectations, it ultimately fetched considerably more than even he had anticipated.

Auction Exceeds Expectations

As the auction got underway later in the episode, bidding opened at £100 before steadily climbing, with an increasingly animated Charles crying: "Ching ching", and "Come on baby!" The final hammer price soared well beyond what Esme and Charles had originally paid, reaching a remarkable £360, leaving fellow expert Roo Irvine visibly stunned.

She remarked: "That's phenomenal. It is deserving of that." Charles warmly shook Esme's hand, saying "thanks partner", while she graciously credited him, adding: "That's down to you."

Reactions from the Team

Keith gave the pair a well-deserved round of applause, and when Roo asked how he felt, he replied: "Lost for words. No I'm pleased for them." Esme then playfully interjected: "I absolutely don't believe you're lost for words", as the group burst into laughter. Antiques Road Trip is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
