Prada Drops Galliano After Anti-Semitic Rant

In a dramatic fall from grace, celebrated British fashion designer John Galliano has been officially dropped by Italian luxury house Prada following the emergence of a vile, anti-Semitic tirade captured on video.

The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the fashion world, occurred at the popular La Perle bar in Paris's Marais district. A video obtained by The Sun newspaper shows Galliano aggressively confronting a group of patrons, hurling horrific insults including the phrase: "I love Hitler."

The consequences were swift and severe. Following the video's release, Galliano was immediately suspended from his prestigious role as creative director at Christian Dior. Within hours, a Paris court found him guilty of public insults based on origin, religious affiliation, race or ethnicity, handing down a suspended €6,000 (£5,200) fine.

Prada, which had employed Galliano to design its highly anticipated Miu Miu and Prada women's wear collections, moved quickly to distance itself from the disgraced designer. A spokesperson for the brand confirmed his contract had been terminated with immediate effect.

A Pattern of Behaviour

This was not an isolated event. The court heard evidence from another couple, Geraldine Bloch and Philippe Virgiti, who alleged a similar verbal assault by Galliano at the same bar last October. Their testimony painted a picture of a repeated pattern of abusive behaviour.

Galliano's defence lawyer argued that his client had no memory of the events, citing a toxic combination of alcohol and prescription medication. However, the court dismissed this as a mitigating factor for the hate-filled language used.

Industry Recoils

The fashion industry has reacted with universal condemnation. Natalie Portman, the face of Miss Dior Cherie perfume and of Jewish heritage, released a statement saying she was "deeply shocked and disgusted" by the video, refusing to be associated with Galliano in any capacity.

This scandal marks a stunning nadir for a designer once hailed as a genius. John Galliano, who was made an honorary commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to fashion, is now a pariah, his legacy irrevocably tarnished by his own hateful words.
