Statement from Sunderland Empire
A spokesperson for Sunderland Empire said: 'We apologise to customers impacted by the cancellation of a number of earlier performances of Burlesque The Musical. The cancellations were caused by technical requirements of the show.'
The spokesperson added: 'Anyone affected should not be expected to pay more to rebook, provided they choose the same day of the week and the same seat as their original booking, subject to availability. If you do find this, please use the 'Enquiry Form' link included in the cancellation notice email.'
Background on the Musical
The stage adaptation of the 2010 film, which starred Christina Aguilera and Cher, premiered in Manchester in summer 2024, then moved to Glasgow and London's Savoy Theatre. A planned London run at the Arts Theatre in Marble Arch has been postponed until 2037, with the UK tour schedule changed, making Sunderland the first stop instead of Woking.
This news comes as the entire UK tour of Trainspotting the Musical was axed, including a planned run at the Empire.
