A YouTuber who went in search of the best burger in Wales and Northern Ireland says he may have found it in Cardiff. Sam Wilder traveled across the region to sample burgers and ended his search at a branch of Burger Boyz in the Welsh capital.
Burger Boyz: From Food Truck to Restaurant
Introducing the venue in his video, Sam said: "Launched by a couple of mates in Cardiff in 2021 in a food truck, they quickly secured a spot at Newport Market before opening a restaurant in Port Talbot and more recently, here in Cardiff." He added: "I really like it in here, it's a really cool vibe. I was very surprised to find Mr Hanky and Mr Towly from South Park in the toilet when I went there."
The Simple One: A Solid Start
The first burger Sam tried was The Simple One, priced at £11.75. Reviewing it, he said: "You know what, actually really dig the simplicity of this and everything. The beef tastes absolutely fantastic and it's a really good amount of cheese which fits really well with it. It's not lacking through lack of sauce. It's not lacking through lack of anything else." He gave it a score of 7.2 out of 10, placing it seventh in his regional rankings.
The Chuck Norris: A Winner
The second burger was the £14 Chuck Norris, which his fans advised him to order as a double. Named after the late martial artist and actor Chuck Norris, who died earlier this year, the burger features beef patties, American cheese, crispy bacon, candied onions, and their own Norris sauce. Sam said: "This looks filthy, but in a good way." He praised the smash patties, crispy edges, and flavorful beef. "Bacon as well here, the absolute perfect crispiness. This is fantastic. The candied onions in there as well give a really nice sweetness and a bit of acidity to it which is fantastic. It just makes it incredibly well balanced. But I really like that Norris sauce as well, which, I can't quite work out what it is. This is the winner of this region for me. I'm going to go with an 8.6."
Final Rankings
The Chuck Norris burger from Burger Boyz topped Sam's list with a score of 8.6, ahead of Smash Bro's Chipotle Smash in second on 8.4, and Beefcake by Fingers and Tums in third with a score of 7.7.
