50 Cent Produces Netflix Diddy Documentary After Feud

In a move that has stunned the entertainment world, Netflix is set to release a deep-dive documentary on Sean 'Diddy' Combs, executive produced by his most prominent and long-standing rival, Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson.

A Surprising Producer and a Long-Standing Rivalry

The four-part series, titled Sean Combs: The Reckoning, is scheduled to land on the streaming platform on December 2. It promises a comprehensive look at Diddy's journey from a celebrated media mogul to a convicted offender. This comes after his high-profile trial in New York, which concluded in July after almost two months.

In that trial, Combs was found guilty on two charges of transportation of former girlfriends for prostitution. However, the jury acquitted him of the more serious charges of racketeering and sex trafficking.

The announcement of the documentary itself was noteworthy, but the revelation of the executive producer has truly captured public attention. The man behind the project is none other than fellow rapper and entrepreneur 50 Cent, who has been publicly feuding with Diddy since 2006.

A Feud Forged in Fire

The animosity between the two titans of hip-hop famously erupted when 50 Cent released his diss track, 'The Bomb', in 2006. In the song, he levelled serious accusations against Combs, alleging involvement in the 1997 murder of the Notorious B.I.G.—claims that Diddy has consistently denied.

In the nearly two decades since, the pair have repeatedly exchanged public jibes, with their drama playing out in the media. 50 Cent has been particularly vocal about Diddy's legal troubles, commenting extensively before, during, and after the recent trial.

The Public Reacts to the Ultimate 'Popcorn Moment'

Fans and social media users have been quick to label 50 Cent's involvement in the documentary as the ultimate act of pettiness, with many calling it a 'popcorn moment'.

One social media user quipped: '50 Cent producing a Diddy documentary is the most ‘grab your popcorn’ energy I’ve seen all year. The title ‘The Reckoning’ already told me peace won’t be present.'

Another admirer of the long-game rivalry stated: '50 cent gotta go down as the greatest hater of the century I don't think it's possible for someone to take that title from him he's dedicated to his craft on a different level.'

A third simply observed: 'Of course 50 cent is producing it. Of course. Nobody holds a grudge for as long as that man does.'

Despite the focus on the producer's personal history with the subject, director Alexandria Stapleton has framed the documentary's purpose in broader terms. She told Tudum that the series is not just about Combs or his victims, but also serves as a mirror for the public.

'Ultimately, this story is a mirror [reflecting us] as the public, and what we are saying when we put our celebrities on such a high pedestal,' Stapleton said. 'I hope [this documentary] is a wake-up call for how we idolise people, and to understand that everybody is a human being.'

With its controversial subject and an even more controversial producer, Sean Combs: The Reckoning is poised to be one of the most talked-about releases of the year when it streams on Netflix from December 2.
