Elliot Page will introduce a new all-trans and non-binary production of William Shakespeare's As You Like It in London this summer. The actor will join live from New York to open the premiere at the Space Theatre on 24 July 2026, the eve of London Trans+ Pride. The production will also be livestreamed globally.
Preview performances take place on 22 and 23 July, alongside a matinee exclusively for LGBTQ+ under-25s and youth groups across London. The production is helmed by the company Trans What You Will Theatre.
The play follows Rosalind, a girl who escapes persecution by disguising herself as a man named Ganymede in the Forest of Arden. Page said: “Shakespeare wrote characters who defy easy categories long before we had language for it – and that feels as relevant now as it ever has. Trans What You Will is proving that these stories have always belonged to us, and I’m honoured to support that work.”
Director Phoebe Kemp, who is non-binary, added: “I am delighted to be back directing another of Shakespeare’s gendery plays for Trans What You Will! The trans community is still facing worsening oppression worldwide, and the opportunity to counter that with joy is an honour.” Kemp also directed a production of Twelfth Night, to be staged in Barcelona on 1 August and livestreamed.
Trans What You Will’s debut production in July 2025 featured Ian McKellen in a rehearsed reading of Twelfth Night, raising money for the trans charity Not a Phase. Tickets for the current production are available on a sliding scale, with remaining matinee seats offered via a free lottery for under-25s after priority allocation to LGBTQ+ youth organisations.
Page recently spoke about the “joy” of reuniting with Christopher Nolan on The Odyssey, after previously working with him on Inception in 2010, ten years before his transition. He said: “It was such a joy to come back.”
