Ricky Gervais: Mortality will premiere globally on Netflix on December 30. The stand-up special was filmed at the London Palladium earlier this year, exploring the comedian's own mortality through a darkly humorous lens that examines life, death, and the state of the world.
The topic is a recurring theme for Gervais, who previously tackled it in the Netflix comedy series After Life. Netflix has promised that 'no topic is off limits' in the special, which is part of Gervais's ongoing partnership with the streaming platform.
Mortality completes Gervais's international 80-arena tour this December, with performances at L.A.'s Hollywood Bowl, New York's Radio City Music Hall, and a 14-night run at the Palladium. The tour has broken box office records in several European territories.
Gervais, best known for the BBC series The Office, has become one of the world's top big-arena stand-ups through Mortality and previous shows Humanity, Supernature, and Armageddon. His 2022 special Supernature faced criticism for transphobic jokes, which he later said targeted 'trans activist ideology' rather than trans individuals.
In September, Netflix announced Alley Cats, an adult animation featuring Gervais alongside British comedians Diane Morgan, Tom Basden, and Kerry Godliman.
