Netflix US subscribers are expressing outrage after the streaming giant announced that all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls will be removed from its library on June 30. The decision has prompted threats of cancellations from loyal fans who consider the show a cornerstone of their viewing habits.
The announcement was made via Netflix's official X account, which posted: "It's a show? It's a lifestyle. It's a religion. We are sorry to say that Gilmore Girls seasons one to seven will be leaving Netflix in the US on June 30. Raising a cup of coffee to every fan who visited Stars Hollow with us."
Fans reacted with dismay, with one writing: "Sounds like I’m cancelling my membership then!" Another commented: "The only reason I pay for Netflix is to rewatch Gilmore Girls on repeat. I'll cancel my membership." Some users expressed frustration at being unable to finish the series in time.
However, the situation is different for UK subscribers. There are currently no plans for Gilmore Girls to leave Netflix UK, where all seven seasons and the 2016 revival series Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life remain available. The revival's licensing agreement with Warner Bros expires on November 25, 2026, but it is unclear if this will affect UK availability.
The removal is part of a broader trend of content leaving Netflix as licensing deals expire. Earlier this year, Sex and the City was also removed from the platform in the US, sparking similar backlash.
