TV comedy writer and playwright Michael Ward, known for his work on Shaun Micallef's Mad As Hell, has compiled his ten funniest internet finds. Ward admits to spending six hours writing the introduction due to online distractions, calling the internet 'the procrastinator's friend'.
His list includes a reimagined trailer for The Shining that turns Kubrick's horror into schmaltzy comedy, set to Peter Gabriel's Solsbury Hill. Another pick is a 1985 music video by Mick and Dave, considered one of the worst ever, but made hilarious by replacing the music with lo-fi sound effects.
Ward also highlights a clip from The Micallef P(r)ogram(me), a sketch show he contributed to, and the unmasked villain's reaction from Scooby-Doo. He praises Amy Poehler and Tina Fey's awards show monologue, and UK sketch show Big Train for its absurd nature documentary pastiche.
Tony Abbott's gaffes on Mad As Hell feature, along with a Family Guy dig at Broadway musicals and a Doctor Who clip from 1973 where an actor drops character mid-line. Finally, Peter Serafinowicz surprises host Jimmy Carr with an offbeat response on a chat show.
Ward's supernatural comedy The Haunting of Spook Mansion (By Ghosts) runs at Chapel Off Chapel, Melbourne from 12-23 November.
