The Capture Season 3 Expands Filming Across London and UK

BBC's acclaimed thriller The Capture is making a highly anticipated return for its third series, with filming locations playing a pivotal role in enhancing the show's cinematic scope. The new season, which premieres on March 8, 2026, sees Holliday Grainger reprising her role as Rachel Carey, continuing her battle against the deepfake technology known as Correction.

Returning Cast and Production Scale

The series marks a comeback after a four-year hiatus since season two aired in 2022. Alongside Grainger, the ensemble cast includes Paapa Essiedu as Isaac Turner, Indira Varma as BBC News presenter Khadija Khan, Ben Miles as Danny Hart, and Ron Perlman as CIA agent Frank Napier. Additional returning actors are Lia Williams, Ginny Holder, Andy Nyman, Nigel Lindsay, Tessa Wong, and Daisy Waterstone.

Director Derek Ritchie emphasized how the expanded locations have transformed the production. "The show is bigger, bolder, and more polished," he stated. "CTC has expanded, reflecting Carey’s rise and new resources. Operation Veritas has its own distinct visual language, particularly in how the screens work. We’ve embraced London and the UK fully, from Westminster to Dover, giving the series greater scale and visual ambition."

Key Filming Locations in London

While previous seasons featured iconic London settings like the bus scene and Piccadilly Circus, season three intensifies the use of the capital. Specific scenes were filmed in:

  • Paddington: Used for underground tunnels doubling as secret government passageways.
  • King's Cross: Also featured in tunnel sequences, described as eerie and historic.
  • The Strand

Holliday Grainger shared insights into the production design, noting, "The sets are incredible, especially the Counter Terrorism Command ops room, which has the biggest screen I’ve ever seen. Episode five also takes us underground, using tunnels beneath Paddington and King’s Cross to double as secret government passageways. They’re eerie, historic, and visually striking, even if it was tough being underground for a week!"

Cast Experiences and Behind-the-Scenes Highlights

Tessa Wong, returning as DC Chloe Tan, highlighted the excitement of filming in public spaces. "Running down The Strand with Ginny (Holder) was a highlight. Filming in such a public space, with everything happening around us, was thrilling and completely different from studio work," she said. "Stepping back onto the CTC set was also amazing. Seeing the scale of it – all the screens, the detail – really brings the world to life. It feels incredibly real and immersive."

Plot Synopsis and Broadcast Details

The new season delves into a complex conspiracy following the events of season two. The synopsis reveals: "It’s been 12 months since Rachel Carey broadcast a live deepfake of a government minister to the nation, exposing the UK intelligence service’s clandestine video manipulation programme known as Correction. Amidst an inquiry into its unlawful use, Carey has become Acting Commander of Counter Terrorism Command, determined to regain public trust through Operation Veritas. When a brutal terror attack targets the British establishment, Carey investigates a geopolitical crisis infecting politics, security services, and media."

Episode one launches on BBC iPlayer at 6am and BBC One at 9pm on Sunday, March 8, with weekly releases thereafter. The series explores themes of truth, deepfakes, and surveillance in a digitally manipulated world.
