Richmond Hill Explosion: Where Are Mark and Moncy Now?

The catastrophic Richmond Hill explosion that devastated a community in Indiana is the focus of a new Netflix documentary series, Worst Neighbor Ever. The episode titled 'Midwest Meltdown' details the November 10, 2012, gas explosion that killed two people, injured dozens, and destroyed upwards of 30 homes. The series explores how the blast was orchestrated by Monserrate 'Moncy' Shirley and her boyfriend Mark Leonard in an attempt to collect insurance money.

Who Were the Key Figures?

Moncy Shirley was a beloved member of the Richmond Hill community. After a sudden divorce, she moved her boyfriend Mark Leonard into her home. Leonard had a criminal record, which worried Shirley's friends. On November 10, 2012, Shirley's house exploded, causing widespread devastation. Investigators later discovered the explosion was deliberately set.

Mark Leonard's half-brother, Bob Leonard, was also involved in the plot. According to Netflix's Tudum, the three conspired to blow up the house for an insurance payout. The explosion killed two neighbors and caused extensive property damage.
