A Scottish horror film set in Maryhill has been hailed as a 'must watch' by viewers who say they 'can't stop watching it'. The 2019 independent found footage film, directed by Scots filmmaker Graham Hughes, made its premiere at the London Fright Festival that same year.

Set in Glasgow, the 'mockumentary' follows a Scottish vlogger who becomes an internet sensation after capturing a ghost live on one of his YouTube videos. He soon finds himself on the dark side of the web after his alleged 'haunting' goes viral.

Plot and Cast

The movie follows an aspiring small-time Glaswegian YouTuber called Graham, who films pranks and vlogs online. Struggling to retain viewers, he sets up a 24-hour live stream in his flat and ends up going viral after capturing alleged paranormal activity on tape.

He teams up with a ghost hunter vlogger named Steve before being exposed by a digital journalist who debunks his haunting as a staged hoax. After suffering online backlash, Graham starts experiencing genuine supernatural occurrences in his flat, but this time, no one believes him.

Writer and director Graham Hughes stars in the leading role of the Glaswegian YouTuber, keeping his own name for the film. The low-budget title features other local Scottish talent in supporting roles. Graham's girlfriend Erin is played by Annabel Logan, fellow YouTuber friend Steve is portrayed by Paddy Kondracki, and journalist Alice, who accuses Graham of an orchestrated hoax, is played by Joma West.

Viewer Reception

The Scottish horror has achieved glowing reviews, with viewers admitting they were 'pleasantly surprised' by the quality of the film. Scoring a perfect 100 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, one fan wrote: "Thoughtful, well executed and often quite funny low budget gem!"

A second praised: "Omg that was insane and perfectly done! No joke there are a few scenes where you are on edge." Another impressed viewer penned: "Thought this was a well crafted horror movie with lots of twists and turns. Very entertaining and creepy."

On a Reddit thread discussing the film, one user gushed: "This movie is so good, I've watched it about 20 times now." Someone else replied: "I enjoyed this so much! It was a pleasant surprise, deserves more praise." A third agreed: "I went in not expecting much. I actually had never heard of it. I too was pleasantly surprised. I love it when that happens."
