Colin Dexter, the author of the Inspector Morse novels, makes a very brief cameo appearance in several episodes. There were 33 episodes screened across nine seasons, with each season containing just a few instalments.

The detective drama received high praise from critics and viewers, who celebrated it as a successful, comforting spin-off. Fans praised its intelligent twists, scenic Oxford backdrop and the compelling dynamic between the lead characters.

One viewer on IMDb hailed it a 'masterpiece', saying: 'An Anglophile through and through, I nonetheless somehow stumbled onto this masterpiece. I love everything about this series.' Another added: 'Just binged the whole series with my husband over the past few weeks and to my surprise I'm sitting here a little tearful that it's over. I will miss these characters deeply.'
