Jamie Lee Curtis has assured fans that a sequel to the 2003 body-swap comedy Freaky Friday is on the cards. Speaking to Variety, the Oscar-winning actress said: 'It’s going to happen. Without saying there’s anything officially happening, I’m looking at you in this moment and saying, ‘Of course it’s going to happen.’ It’s going to happen.'
Curtis, who starred alongside Lindsay Lohan in the original film, has been increasingly vocal about the project. On 10 February, she shared a photo of herself and Lohan on Instagram with the caption: 'It’s Friday. I’m just sayin! Freaky fingers crossed!' Lohan responded with crossed-finger emojis, a heart-eyes smiley and two raised hands.
The sequel would mark a return to one of Curtis's most beloved roles, coming shortly after she bid farewell to her iconic character Laurie Strode in the Halloween franchise. She described the experience of filming Halloween Ends as akin to a break-up, saying: 'That last week in Savannah, Georgia, when I knew every day going to that set was going to be the last time I was going to be Laurie and be with my people, I cried every day.'
Lohan, meanwhile, is enjoying a career resurgence, having recently starred in Netflix's Falling for Christmas. No official release date or further details for Freaky Friday 2 have been announced.
