Jaime Winstone emotional over 'horrific' Strictly dance-off

Strictly Come Dancing contestant Jaime Winstone became visibly emotional on It Takes Two as she described the 'horrific' experience of facing the series' first dance-off. The actress survived the bottom two on Sunday evening (October 4), when the judges chose to save her over Chris Appleton, making Chris the first elimination of the series.

Appearing on It Takes Two on Tuesday evening (October 6) alongside her professional partner Carlos Gu, the 41-year-old told BBC presenter Ellie Taylor: "It was terrifying. All the feelings of 'Oh, nobody likes me, and we got so much wrong'. But, I loved doing the dance, I love the Cha Cha." She added that the positive side was getting another chance to perform the routine she had relished.

Emotional rehearsals and insecurity

Jaime told the presenter she felt proud of her efforts, though she described being in the dance-off as a 'horrific feeling'. Carlos emphasised his pride in her determination during the week's rehearsals, saying she refused to surrender. Ellie then observed that Jaime looked emotional about the experience.

Jaime responded: "To be honest, it has been really emotional these last 24 hours. Just because you're- it's such a fast pace. I'm used to not being that vulnerable on camera." She went on to reflect on comments made by Chris Appleton, saying: "There were certain little things that Chris (Appleton) said yesterday. You do go back to that child in school, going, 'Oh, I don't fit in'. Actually, some of your greatest things about you are what make you stand out, and a lot of insecurities happened yesterday, and it's not how you fall, it's how you get yourself back up."

Next routine and judge scores

During the chat, the duo gave fans a preview of their upcoming Saturday performance on the BBC programme. Ellie revealed they will perform a Viennese Waltz to the tune Never Tear Us Apart. Asked how she was coping with the routine, Jaime confessed: "Oh my god, it's really emotional! It's emotional. Coming in with the energy, I can use it as the tools, you know? As an actor, I can go, 'Right ok, I am feeling really emotional from last weekend' But also, it's really powerful."

Last weekend, Jaime and Carlos received a score of 21 from the judges, while Chris was awarded a total of 17. Reflecting on his time on the show, the hairdresser admitted: "I literally would go out there shaking, I did it anyway. There were times, where I was like, 'I'm not sure I can do this', but I did it. All I did was look back at Amy, I'd see her smile, and I knew she was with me, and you know what? That says something about the show, to have people that care so much about you."

The 43-year-old paused to commend the 'phenomenal' team working behind the scenes, adding: "It really is a journey, it's a phenomenal one, and if you're lucky enough to do it, jump at it because it's amazing. But it's a journey." It Takes Two continues weekdays on BBC Two from 6:30pm.
