Harry Potter props arrive at Metrocentre for half term

Harry Potter film props have gone on display at the Metrocentre in Gateshead, giving the shopping centre a magical theme for the October half term. Visitors can see vehicles from the films, including the Weasley's car and Hagrid's motorcycle and sidecar, along with a large model of Hagrid.

The display marks 25 years since the first Harry Potter film was released, and nearly 30 years since the first book came out. The first film arrived on the big screen at the turn of the millennium, three years after the publication of the first novel, The Philosopher's Stone. What began as a single book became a worldwide phenomenon, with each film performing strongly at the box office. North East landmarks such as Alnwick Castle and Durham Cathedral were used as filming locations.

Halloween Weekend Activities

The wizard-themed attractions will be expanded over Halloween weekend itself, on October 30 and 31, with Wand-Making Craft Sessions for young wizards and witches, costumed characters roaming the centre, and exclusive retailer discounts. The events come ahead of the HBO TV adaptation of the Harry Potter series, which is expected to arrive on screen for Christmas.

New Collectables Store Opening

There will be another reason for film fans and wrestling enthusiasts to visit the Metrocentre this coming week, as Super Power Toys and Collectibles expands from its existing shop in County Durham to open in Gateshead. The company, which started for UK wrestling figure collectors in the North East, now has customers around the world and is described as the number one online retailer in the UK for the newest wrestling figures and movie collectables.
