Gillian Anderson Debuts Bouncy Blonde Curls at Cannes Film Festival
Gillian Anderson Shows Off New Blonde Curls at Cannes

Gillian Anderson debuted a striking new look with a mass of bouncy blonde curls at the 79th annual Cannes Film Festival in the South of France on Wednesday. The 57-year-old actress appeared at the photocall for her upcoming film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, where she posed for photographers at the Palais des Festivals.

A Dramatic Style Change

The Sex Education star swapped her classic smooth blonde hairstyle for a dramatic bouffant of bold curls that cascaded across her shoulders and onto her embroidered, floral butter-yellow gown. She complemented the look with pale pink lipstick, a simple makeup palette, and minimal accessories, finishing with a pair of maroon strappy heels.

Anderson beamed as she laughed and posed on the red carpet, showcasing a carefree yet chic aesthetic. This marked a clear departure from her usual red carpet style, where she often opts for sleek, perfectly coiffed curls that frame her face.

Evolution of Her Iconic Locks

Anderson has long been known for her iconic hair. When she first rose to fame as Agent Dana Scully on The X-Files, she sported a sleek ginger bob. In recent years, she has experimented with her style, maintaining blonde hair both on and off screen. However, this new curly look added a whimsical touch to her pastel outfit.

Red Carpet Companions

The English-American actress joined filmmaker Jane Schoenbrun and Hacks star Hannah Einbinder on the red carpet. Both Schoenbrun and Einbinder opted for all-black ensembles, creating a striking contrast with Anderson's vibrant gown.

Directed by Schoenbrun, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma follows Einbinder's character, a filmmaker tasked with remaking a cult zombie slasher film. Anderson stars as a reclusive actress who played the final girl in the original slasher being remade.

Return to Horror

Speaking to Variety on the red carpet, Anderson expressed excitement about returning to the horror genre after The X-Files. "Having spent some time over the last year doing a few Comic Cons, I've been reminded of the huge swaths of different populations and their attachment, their obsessive nature… in a fandom way and also in terms of the escape of it," she said. "Because this film is the ultimate escape fodder."

When asked if she would consider appearing in Ryan Coogler's X-Files reboot, she quipped, "That is such a good question that I refuse to answer."
