GB News ground to a halt minutes into its breakfast show on Thursday morning (July 2) as presenters Alex Armstrong and Ellie Costello delivered a major breaking news update concerning Prince Harry. The Duke of Sussex is facing fresh terror threats, according to a highly sensitive security report that has leaked ahead of his planned UK visit for the Invictus Games.
The report, commissioned by Prince Harry's private security firm and seen by ITV News, claims there are six terrorist plots against Harry and his family, including Meghan Markle and their two children. Five of these plots are said to have originated in the UK. The document also includes an al-Qaeda directive calling for his assassination.
Security Report Details Terrorist Threats
Royal correspondent Cameron Walker joined the GB News presenters to discuss the findings. He stated: "This report from Harry's security team does claim six terror threats against Harry and his family, Meghan and the two children, most of which are in the UK. There's a mixture of jihadist plots and far right extremists as well."
Walker added context: "Harry genuinely believes that his life is under threat and therefore, he should have some kind of police protection while he is in the UK. As things stand, what he gets is a phone number for a police liaison officer, which is plenty more digits than 999 if someone was running at him with a knife."
The confidential risk assessment was prepared for the Prince in February and submitted to the RAVEC Committee, which decides whether high-profile individuals, including members of the Royal Family, receive police protection funded by the Home Office. However, Prince Harry's request for taxpayer-funded protection was rejected earlier this week.
Context of Current Security Arrangements
Prince Harry's own protection team, which he pays for, will accompany him from the United States. However, as Walker noted: "They are not legally allowed to carry firearms, and they don't have access to the same intelligence that the Metropolitan Police do. Nonetheless, if security was reinstated, and it doesn't look like it's going to be at this stage, it would cost British taxpayers a lot of money."
The report details dozens of threats and potential attacks facing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Notably, the whereabouts of four convicted individuals associated with the terrorist threats against the Prince are currently unknown to the private security firm employed by the Sussexes.
Public Reaction on Social Media
As the story hit the airwaves, viewers flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts. One user commented: "If he truly felt unsafe, he'd pivot to a more private life of real philanthropy. Instead, ego and birthright claims make him refuse to adapt. He brings this entire mess on himself. In reality, everyone has to pivot at some point."
Another viewer wrote: "Prince Harry's private security firm suddenly 'uncovers' six terror plots against him (five in the UK) right before his trip - yet he toured Nigeria (high-risk terrorism zone), Canada, and roamed the US recklessly with no issues. Spare us the drama."
A third added: "If anyone REALLY wanted to go after him, do you really think they'd wait until he arrives in the UK? No... They'd get him anywhere in the world. ANYWHERE! The fact is, he is using the UK by claiming these threats are mostly UK-based."
Impact on Prince Harry's UK Visit
The worrying update comes weeks before the Duke of Sussex is set to visit the UK for the Invictus Games. The security situation remains unresolved, with Prince Harry's team continuing to argue for state-funded protection while the Home Office has so far declined the request.
