Charlotte Boggia could never have anticipated that a routine trip to the Arndale shopping centre with her mother, intended as a break from GCSE revision to browse for new trainers, would alter the course of her life forever. At just 15 years old, this schoolgirl from a modest semi-detached home in the suburb of Denton, Manchester, was discovered by model agency scouts during that visit to a Vans store. Three years later, she finds herself balancing A-Level studies in maths, economics, and German with high-profile modelling assignments for iconic brands such as Gucci, Burberry, and Ralph Lauren.
An Ordinary Upbringing
Despite her jet-setting lifestyle, Charlotte remains grounded, still living with her parents in their £250,000 home on a quiet suburban street. Her social media feeds are filled with high-fashion editorial shots, each accompanied by supportive messages from her proud family. Her father, Leslie Boggia, described her journey as a 'fairytale,' telling the Daily Mail: 'We are incredibly proud of her – she's just a very normal girl.' This unpretentious attitude has propelled the 19-year-old to burgeoning fame in British fashion.
Early Encounters with Modelling
Charlotte's first brush with the modelling world occurred when she was 11, at a Little Mix concert in Liverpool with her mother and a friend. A scout approached them, but the family dismissed it as a scam and never followed up. Years later, during that fateful trip to the Arndale, a scout from Boss Models spotted her browsing for trainers. The agent was so impressed that she sent her son running through the mall to find Charlotte after she had walked away, eager to sign her. After careful discussion with her parents, Charlotte signed a contract that very afternoon. Incredibly, later that week, she was scouted again at a bus stop in Manchester city centre, this time by Select, a global agency representing stars like Sienna Miller and David Gandy. She signed with Select for London work while maintaining representation with Boss in Manchester.
Balancing Studies and Runway
Charlotte began modelling while still studying for her GCSEs, travelling to Paris with her father for test shoots. However, her managers delayed her full launch to avoid teen modelling. On her 18th birthday, she flew alone to Milan for her first adult casting with Prada, buying her first pair of heels for the occasion. Though she didn't book that job, she soon debuted on the runway for Paco Rabanne in Paris, followed by shows for Louis Vuitton, Chloe, and Isabel Marant. Since then, she has worked for Dior, Valentino, Fendi, Versace, opened a Burberry show, and closed for Ralph Lauren—a significant achievement for a newcomer.
Keeping Feet on the Ground
Charlotte's father Les emphasised her humility: 'It certainly hasn't gone to Char's head. She is very humble... kind and pleasant to everyone.' She worked part-time jobs from age 16, including at a university gift shop and a department store. At Loreto College, she served as environment ambassador and student councillor, graduating last year. She holds a financial services qualification and was accepted by five red-brick universities for maths and economics, though she has deferred her place. Her earnings are estimated at up to £120,000 annually, according to PR expert Riley Gardiner, but she saves most of it, spending only on a holiday to Porto with her boyfriend, Tyler Barnes, and a secondhand jacket.
A Supportive Family
Charlotte's close-knit family includes her mother Helen, who studied Russian, and two older sisters: Emily, an archaeology graduate, and Meg, a York St John University alumna living with her partner and three children. Her father Les offered a bed to Manchester Arena bombing victims in 2017, reflecting their strong community spirit. Charlotte told Vogue: 'A lot of my friends struggle with the rejection side of modelling, but I've always been more worried about simply being so far away from home.'
