Ann Droid charts the life of widow Sue (portrayed by Sue Johnston) whose son Michael (Paul Ready) purchases an AI AnnDroid Z58/100 Basic Eldercare Robot named Linda (Diane Morgan) to provide her with companionship.
Though the companion robots are engineered to monitor elderly people's wellbeing, Sue is far from impressed with her new contraption.
This week, the BBC unveiled a first-look trailer offering a glimpse of what's in store, reports the Express.
As Sue enjoys a relaxing bubble bath with her eyes closed, robot Linda abruptly materialises, flagging up 'danger' as a warning indicator illuminates on her torso.
Making her jump, Sue was incensed by the disturbance, shouting: "Linda, stop it, stop it! You're supposed to stay in Michael's room."
Yet her new bot remained unfazed by her fury, informing Sue that dozing off in the bath could prove 'lethal'.
Interrupting her, Sue shouts at robot Linda that she's naked, to which the AI responds 'isn't a problem for me', as she tosses her dressing gown into the bath to cover herself.
Sensing Sue's irritation, Linda tries to 'lighten the mood' with a quip, which falls flat as her owner commands: "P**s off to the room I told you to stay in, only stay there! I just want a quiet evening alone watching TV."
Official Synopsis and Fan Reactions
An official synopsis states: "But she soon works out she can use the droid to her benefit in settling scores and doing the things her son never gets round to.
"What develops is a buddy comedy between an older woman and her robot, who isn't quite as advanced socially as she is technically."
Enthusiastic fans have already expressed their excitement ahead of the forthcoming series, with many remarking on just how amusing it appears.
On Instagram, one follower gushed: "Woooooo! When I'm telling you this series is gonna be fiyaaaaaah. If you know, you know!! Legends... All of them."
Another chimed in: "This is gonna be incredible." A third added: "What a laser-perfect casting! Looking forward to this!!!"
Reflecting on Ann Droid, Diane remarked: "I'm thrilled that the BBC has finally commissioned a programme about AI and how it will affect your mum."
Ann Droid will air on BBC iPlayer in July.
