Coronation Street star Alison King has confirmed that there is 'trouble' ahead for Carla Connor-Swain in the long-running ITV soap, as her on-screen partner hopes for happier times ahead amid a major milestone.
The actress, famed for playing the Underworld factory boss, made her debut in 2006, with her 20th anniversary on the cobbles approaching this December.
Factory drama on the horizon
It is the factory that is set to cause drama for Carla in upcoming scenes, following recent teases from Junade Khan, who plays Idris Nazir, about a new storyline in which his ruthless character tries to manipulate Carla when she is in a vulnerable state.
Sharing more about what lies ahead for her character, Alison told Inside Soap: "Carla is going to have troubles again at the factory. It's her trying to weather those and Lisa being there and supporting her. It's going to be tough times for Carla and Underworld, and Lisa really wants to be able to help."
Celebrating 20 years
Vicky Myers, who plays detective Lisa Swain, highlighted that it will soon be 20 years since Alison joined Corrie, and it should be celebrated with her at the forefront of the factory.
"I think it's brilliant for Carla to get back into the factory in Ali's 20th year!" she said. "That's her baby, she's worked so hard to keep it through hard times and the good times, and Lisa is very much being a supporting role with that, as it should be."
Couple's future teased
After fans recently called for more scenes between Lisa and Carla, Vicky teased what is ahead for the couple, speaking exclusively to the Manchester Evening News at the Inside Soap Awards 2026.
"They've got some stuff in the works, there's the domesticity as well and watching them grow as a couple and a family," she said. "Because there's obviously the aftermath of Betsy's [stroke] and rehabilitation and hopefully more with Ryan and the Connor-Swains, that would be really sweet."
She added: "But there's a lot of police things as well, with the Kit [Green] storyline. So there's a lot Lisa is trying to juggle. It's a really interesting dynamic between Lisa and Carla, and how supportive they are with each other. Because they're there for each other, they can be vulnerable with each other, and they can trust each other with everything that they do, which I think is a really beautiful thing. Who doesn't want a relationship like that?"
