Alex Scott on Football Focus Exit, Jess Glynne Engagement, and New BBC Role
Alex Scott Discusses Football Focus Exit and New BBC Role

Alex Scott has hinted at an engagement with Jess Glynne following the cancellation of Football Focus after 52 years on air. The former Arsenal star, who hosted the show for five years, has confirmed she will remain with the BBC for major tournaments and a new project.

Scott's Departure from Football Focus

Scott revealed she had already decided to step away from Football Focus before the BBC announced its cancellation. Writing on Instagram, she stated: "I always knew this would be my last season on the show, which the BBC were aware of too. My intention was to move quietly into the next chapter, but sometimes things change." She acknowledged declining TV audiences and the growth of digital viewing, expressing gratitude for her eight-year involvement, including five years as presenter.

New BBC Role and Projects

Despite the show's end, Scott will continue with the BBC, presenting coverage of the men's World Cup in 2026 and the women's World Cup in 2027. She will also remain a lead presenter for the Women's Super League and BBC Sports Personality of the Year. Alex Kay-Jelski, director of BBC Sport, praised Scott as "one of our finest presenters" and revealed an exciting new project with her, though details remain undisclosed.

Jess Glynne Engagement Hints

Scott and singer Jess Glynne have been together since 2023 and have openly discussed marriage. During Scott's appearance on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! last year, Glynne was asked about proposing. Scott later said: "I will get married to her, I'm just waiting for her to ask! I know my forever is with her!" Glynne, on This Morning, played coy when asked about a ring, saying: "No! The pressure! Why do I have to ask her?" No official engagement has been announced.

Past Relationship with Kelly Smith

Before Glynne, Scott had an eight-year secret romance with former Arsenal and England teammate Kelly Smith. In her memoir How (Not) To Be Strong, Scott described it as her "first love story," adding: "I fell madly and deeply in love." The pair won a historic quadruple with Arsenal in 2006/07. Scott also opened up about her difficult upbringing with a "stupidly cruel" father, which affected her ability to show emotion. She recalled: "One of the first times Jess hugged me, I was rigid. She asked, 'Are you not going to put your arms around me?' But I didn't know how to do that."

Future Endeavours

Scott will host the final episode of Football Focus on Sunday before moving on to her new BBC projects. Fans eagerly await announcements regarding both her professional career and personal life, including a potential wedding with Glynne.
