Radio presenter Zoe Ball has opened up about a significant change in her family dynamic, revealing that her 16-year-old daughter, Nelly, is now living with her father, DJ Fatboy Slim, whose real name is Norman Cook. Ball shared this personal update during an episode of the Dig It podcast, which she co-hosts with Jo Whiley. She noted that her home has become considerably quieter as a result of Nelly's decision.
Why Nelly Chose to Move
According to Ball, Nelly's choice was driven by a desire for stability and a single base. The teenager's revision notes are now displayed at her father's house, indicating her settled presence there. Ball explained, "She wanted to be in one place, and that's where she feels most comfortable at the moment." Despite the change, Ball emphasized that the arrangement has not strained their mother-daughter relationship. Since Ball and Cook live close to each other in Brighton, they can visit frequently, ensuring regular contact.
Impact on Family Life
Ball described the adjustment as bittersweet, saying, "I see her less and less, but we still have a wonderful bond. It's just a different rhythm." She also praised Cook as a dedicated father, noting that co-parenting has been smooth. The couple, who divorced in 2016, have maintained a friendly relationship for the sake of their children. Nelly is their only child together; Ball also has an older son, Woody, from a previous relationship.
Zoe Ball's Recent Career Update
Separately, Ball disclosed that she auditioned for a role as a host on the popular BBC show Strictly Come Dancing. She revealed on her BBC Radio 2 show that she screen-tested for the position but was ultimately not selected. The hosting duties went to comedian Josh Widdicombe, who will join Emma Willis and Johannes Radebe for the upcoming series. Ball took the news in stride, expressing her support for the new team and her continued focus on her radio career.
Ball's candidness about both her personal and professional life has resonated with fans, who appreciate her honesty. Her revelation about Nelly's living situation offers a glimpse into the realities of modern co-parenting, where flexibility and communication are key.
