Prince William's appearance on The Graham Norton Show has highlighted the contrast between him and Prince Harry, following Harry's recent interview with GQ magazine in which he mentioned his royal title twice.
Harry sat down for an interview with GQ magazine, where he said he wants to reconcile with his family. During the conversation, he reminded the interviewer that he is a prince on two occasions.
Harry's repeated references to his title
When asked why he does not need sympathy, Harry replied: "I certainly don't want any sympathy. That's where we're way past that. Why? Because I'm a prince. I've got a support network around me, I've done different forms of therapy, and I put in the work. I wonder where I would be if I didn't – it could be a very different situation."
Discussing the resources available to him following the death of his mother, Princess Diana, when he was 12, Harry again brought up his royal status. He said: "And look, let's not forget, I'm a prince, right? So all of the resources to me should have been available for the reasons that we've discussed. They weren't always available, but could I afford it? Yes. Was it accessible? Yes."
William's relaxed approach on Graham Norton
One week later, the Prince of Wales appeared on The Graham Norton Show to promote his environmental initiative, the Earthshot Prize. William came across as relaxed and chatty, sharing a few anecdotes.
During the show, Graham asked: "For the purposes of chat show land, how do I refer to you?" William responded: "Whatever suits." When Graham suggested simply calling him William, he was happy to go along with it.
Contrast in the brothers' approaches
Harry brought up being a prince twice while explaining his access to support and resources, while William was given the opportunity to emphasise his own position and simply brushed past it. Harry is the one who stepped back from royal duties, yet his title still seemed important enough to mention repeatedly.
In a week when the brothers were both in the headlines for very different reasons, the contrast between their approaches speaks volumes.
