Betty the French bulldog, who became a viral internet sensation for having what fans called 'Scotland's biggest boobs' during her pregnancy, has died. Her owner, Elizabeth Durnan, 43, from Glasgow, confirmed that Betty passed away after suffering a stroke, dying in her arms.
Viral Fame from a Single Photo
Betty's fame began when a photo of her carrying large milking breasts during pregnancy was posted online. The image, taken as Betty was being taken to the vets for a C-section, led fans to dub her the dog with 'Scotland's biggest boobs.' The photo spread rapidly, making Betty a beloved figure across the internet.
Funeral and Tributes
On July 8, Betty was laid to rest in Glasgow, with dozens of heartbroken mourners attending an emotional funeral service. Elizabeth said: 'She was so loved by everyone that knew her - and the whole internet! Her passing has left such a big void, we did everything together and she is going to be so missed.'
A Source of Strength
Betty was a source of strength for Elizabeth through some of the darkest moments of her life, including four cancer diagnoses, a stroke, and three heart attacks. Elizabeth said: 'My husband bought me her eight years ago because we couldn't have kids together - she was my real baby.'
Pampered Life
Betty was described as 'incredibly sassy, cheeky and spoilt, with the biggest heart.' She stayed at most of Scotland's hotels and refused to sleep on the floor without her own bed. Elizabeth said: 'In every place she went she had her own bed, and in our home alone she had three couches and 11 beds! Anytime we went to the vet or out somewhere she wouldn't sit on the floor, she would have to have a seat!'
'Even when we went to the park and all the dogs would be running and lying about, Betty would go off to do her business and then come back and sit on a bench. Loads of people say this about their dogs, but she was so human - she didn't even like people touching her hair. Every Christmas Betty had special jammies, and every birthday she had a big cake and party. She used to go to hydro pools and just loved the pub. We will miss her terribly.'
